Death Moth

When I moved to the Front Range I knew I wanted to create a competition for nonbinary, trans, gender-nonconforming, and women only. Why? Men dominate both the sport and route setting of rock climbing. Providing this space for marginalized groups is crucial for our sport to continue growing and learning.

For this competition, I brought together a team of women to help with its creation, recognizing that this unique event required diverse perspectives. We held multiple meetings and consulted with external groups to develop appropriate language for marketing and to ensure the space was as safe and comfortable as possible. Excitingly, Death Moth's setting team consisted entirely of women and non-binary setters, which allowed the boulders to perfectly suit the competitors.
